Beached Shark (A Poem)

Why do I cry for the shark in the shallows?
Stuck, like me, deeply in the sand.
Forever stuck in the deep space of my mind.
How come? Forever unknown.

Sharks know they can get stuck—
hunger outweighs rationality.
If it gets beached, does it care?

The reason I cry?
Sharks are the best!
Is there a reason why the best
get fleshed out and eaten
so there’s none left for the rest?

One day, everything is fine,
The next? No good.

Why do you bother to be like the shark?
Does it matter to you after dark?
Or only during sunlight?
Where you could be seen.

Where your sunlight shines;
an impossible dream.

Stand with the sharks,
Stand with all creatures of the sea
I know you gotta eat, but shit—
Let them be.
